STAY & EXPLORE

Plan your visit to Bradford with a range of accommodation options. Choose from traditional hotels, guesthouses, and B&Bs, or opt for independent stays in lodges and serviced apartments.

HEWENDEN VIADUCT & GREAT NORTHERN TRAIL

Follow the disused railway line from Cullingworth to Queensbury, crossing the awe-inspiring Hewenden Viaduct. The trail meanders through quiet woodland and open countryside, where frost clings to branches and the air feels crisp and still. Extend the route toward Thornton Viaduct for a dramatic loop through West Yorkshire’s industrial past. Distance: Approx. 5 miles (8 km) one-way. Cosy Stop: South Square Centre, Thornton – art galleries and heritage displays in a restored 19th-century courtyard. Public Transport: Bus 616 or 619 from Bradford Interchange to Cullingworth or Thornton.

SALTAIRE VILLAGE HERITAGE TRAIL

Wander through Saltaire’s UNESCO-listed model village, where Victorian architecture lines cobbled streets and the canal glides silently past frost-covered towpaths. Roberts Park offers a peaceful pause among bare trees and winter birdsong. Distance: Approx. 1 miles (1.6 km) loop. Including Roberts Park, the walk is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km), depending on how much of the park you explore. Cosy Stop: Salts Mill Bookshop & Gallery – warm lighting and literary charm. Public Transport: Train from Bradford Forster Square to Saltaire Station (12 min).

THE WORTH WAY

This circular trail links Keighley, Hainworth, Oxenhope, and Oakworth, weaving through Brontë Country’s moorland and valleys. In winter, the landscape feels windswept and cinematic, with steam trains puffing through the mist and stone cottages nestled in frost-covered fields. Distance: Approx. 11 miles (17.7 km) circular. Cosy Stop: Warm up at Rail Story at Ingrow, where vintage locomotives and railway exhibits bring history to life. Public Transport: Train to Keighley, then bus 500 or 697 to Haworth or Oxenhope.

ILKLEY MOOR & COW AND CALF ROCKS

Start in Ilkley town centre and ascend to the Cow and Calf Rocks, then cross the moor to the Twelve Apostles Stone Circle. In winter, the moor is stark and beautiful — heather dusted with frost, puddles edged with ice, and distant hills softened by low cloud. Distance: The Length & Breadth of Ilkley Moor 7 miles (11.2km) circular walk with a

shorter circular option of 5 3/4 miles (9.2km). Cosy Stop: Ilkley Manor House – medieval charm and seasonal exhibitions. Public Transport: Train from Bradford Forster Square to Ilkley Station (30 min).

BINGLEY LOOP WALK

This circular walk follows the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, River Aire, and quiet lanes around Micklethwaite. In winter, the canal edges freeze, mist rises from the water, and the Five Rise Locks stand silent and grand — a monument to Victorian engineering in a hushed landscape. Distance: Approx. 7 miles (11.26km) circular. Cosy Stop: Bingley Gallery – local art in a warm, light-filled space. Public Transport: Train from Bradford Forster Square to Bingley Station (15 min).

BAILDON MOOR & SHIPLEY GLEN

This moderate circular walk crosses Baildon Moor and descends through Shipley Glen, offering expansive views over Airedale. Winter transforms the moor into a windswept wilderness, while the glen’s wooded paths feel quiet and enchanted, with icy streams and mossy stones. Distance: Approx. 6 miles (9.6 km) circular. Cosy Stop: Old Glen House, The Bull’s Head, and The Garden Bar – welcoming pubs in and around Baildon offering food, drinks, and a warm place to unwind after your walk. Public Transport: Train to Baildon Station or bus 656/658 to Baildon village.

ST IVES ESTATE WOODLAND LOOP

This walk through St Ives Estate near Bingley passes Coppice Pond, Lady Blantyre’s Rock, and Druids Altar. The estate’s woodland paths feel like a winter fairytale, with bare branches arching overhead and moorland views opening up like a frozen tapestry. Distance: Approx. 2.3 miles (3.7 km) circular. Cosy Stop: The Ivy Kitchen – dog-friendly indoor retreat with warm drinks. Public Transport: Train to Bingley, then bus 616/619 to Harden village entrance.

BRADFORD CITY CENTRE HERITAGE TRAIL

Explore Bradford’s historic heart, from the Venetian Gothic grandeur of City Hall to the ornate Wool Exchange and the quiet beauty of Little Germany. In winter, Victorian buildings glow under soft light, and festive decorations add sparkle to the streets. Distance: Approx. 2 miles (3.2 km) loop.
