MORNING: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF DELIUS

Did you know? Frederick Delius was born in Bradford in 1862 and became internationally renowned for compositions inspired by nature, landscape and the changing seasons. A blue plaque on Claremont Road marks the site of his birthplace.

Homage to Delius

Begin your day near Bradford Interchange and The Great Victoria Hotel, where you'll find Homage to Delius, a striking public sculpture by artist Amber Hiscott.

Unveiled in 1993, the sculpture takes the form of two giant winter leaves made from steel and coloured glass. Part skeletal and part alive, the artwork reflects themes of nature, life and renewal that feature throughout Delius's music. Walk through the tunnel created by the two leaves and take a moment to appreciate this tribute to one of Bradford's most celebrated cultural figures.

Bradford City Centre

Take a walk through Bradford city centre, where many of the grand Victorian buildings standing today would have been familiar to Delius and his family.

Continue into Little Germany, one of the best-preserved Victorian merchant quarters in the UK. Its impressive sandstone warehouses were built by wealthy wool merchants during Bradford's industrial boom and reflect the international character of the city during Delius's early years.
