Wild About The Wharfe

About

This is an exhibition of wildlife photographs that have been taken along the Ilkley section of the river Wharfe, by local wildlife photographer and enthusiast, Steve Westerman.

The Wharfe is host to a wide variety of species, including kingfishers, dippers, goosanders, otters, herons, and more. The exhibition is designed to raise awareness of this richness, with displays that include both photographs of, and information on, the different species. However, it will also draw attention to the growing pressures on this valuable environment and the need for conservation.

Over recent years, increasing numbers of people have been attracted to the Wharfe, as a place where they can enjoy picnicking, wild swimming, dog walking, paddle boarding, jogging, or perhaps just sitting in nature. The danger is that the wildlife, with which we currently share this beautiful section of river, is steadily being pushed to the margins. This exhibition is designed to raise awareness of the need to maintain this as a shared space.

It will also provide information on local groups that are involved in such efforts. Over the weeks of the exhibition the displays will change to reflect different topics, so please do consider visiting more than once.
