The Vicar of Dibley

About

Comedy gold comes to the Playhouse!

This hilarious play (adapted from the popular TV comedy) is set in the sleepy village of Dibley, where the elderly local vicar has just died and the parish council members, led by their pompous, opinionated chairman David Horton, are waiting to greet his replacement.

They are definitely not expecting anyone like Geraldine Granger – “a babe with a bob cut and a magnificent bosom”! Nevertheless, kind-hearted, fun-loving Geraldine (aided by pea-brained verger Alice Tinker) sets out to win over the oddball inhabitants of Dibley while staying true to herself.

Although female vicars are no longer considered particularly unusual, the play’s humour has remained fresh, partly thanks to the wonderfully eccentric characters who make up Geraldine’s congregation.

Don’t miss this show! It will put you in a festive mood in the run up to Christmas.

“You were expecting a bloke - beard, bible, bad breath. And instead, you got a babe with a bob cut and a magnificent bosom.”

Relaxed Performance on Saturday 16th December 2.30pm

Open to anyone who feels they would benefit from seeing a theatre performance in a more informal environment. Numbers will be limited to keep the atmosphere as relaxed as possible.

The show will be slightly adapted - the sound will be turned down a little and the theatre lights turned up and a relaxed performance always includes a relaxed attitude to noise and movement (voluntary and involuntary) in the auditorium.

There will be a special ‘quiet’ zone for anyone who might feel uncomfortable at any point in the performance. This will be a safe and supervised space for audience members to come out if they should find that the auditorium starts to become overwhelming.

There’ll also be lots of friendly members of the Front of House team to welcome you.  We can provide a visual (social) story for anyone who needs it as well as a clear synopsis. Please contact the office on 01943 609539 if you require a copy of the "Social Story" in advance.
