The Hound of the Baskervilles

The play has its roots in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1901 story, beginning with the shocking death of Sir Charles Baskerville who is found on the grounds of his dark and spooky country house, Baskerville Hall. According to legend the Baskerville family is hounded by a curse which sees a hellish dog baying for the Baskervilles’ blood. With Sir Charles’s nephew and only known heir on his way to claim his inheritance, Sherlock Holmes is tasked with getting to the bottom of the curse before another Baskerville falls victim to the hound. With just three cast members and a script which is so fast-paced it’s likely to see all of them collapsing in the wings at the end, Steve Canny and John Nicholson’s Hound of the Baskervilles is a challenging piece of work.
