Spring Into Sustainability

Have fun and help the planet this Easter. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, so we'll be using the best activities from our archives, reducing our consumption of new materials by about 80%.

Join in with a range of family-friendly make-and-take activities, hear about the journey our food goes on in What’s for Dinner, see a live science show and more.

We will be holding relaxed performances of our science shows over Easter, and on Tuesday 4 April a range of activities will have a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter. See below for more information.

When: 1–7 April, 10.00–16.00 (last entry 15.45)
Where: Makespace, Level 4

Discover how professional TV and filmmakers use storyboards to map out their stories. See examples of real storyboards and have a go at making your own using our templates and some expert guidance from our Explainers.

Recommended for families with children aged 5+.

When: 8 and 9 April, 10.00–16.00 (last entry 15.45)
Where: Makespace, Level 4

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, the BBC’s time-travelling doctor. To celebrate six decades of this iconic programme, join us as we create models of Daleks and use simple motors to make them move.

Recommended for families with children aged 6+.

When: 10–16 April, 10.00–16.00 (last entry 15.45)
Where: Makespace, Level 4

Have you ever wanted to be a spy and write your own secret messages? Then come along to the Makespace and make your own cipher wheel. Cipher wheels have been used to create secret codes by Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. You can use this wheel to create your own code and then get your friends and family to try and decipher your secret message.

Recommended for families with children aged 5+.

When: Daily at 11.00, 14.00, 15.00 (times may vary)
Where: Wonderlab Studio, Level 3

What subject will our Explainers cover in our spectacular science show today? Will it be sound with Bring the Thunder, light with Light It Up, space with Exploring Space or maths and computing with Creative Coders: Science Showdown? Join us to find out!

Recommended for families with children aged 5+.

When: Mondays, Fridays and Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April at 11.00

We’ll be reducing the capacity of our science shows, keeping the lights on and leaving the doors open. Please do join us early for these performances so you can get used to the space. Suitable for families with children of any age. Ear defenders available.

When: Tuesday 4 April, 12.00–16.00

Our BSL Interpreter will be attending the following activties:
