About
A kathak contemporary dance performance that celebrates women and their position in today’s world.
The work honours the strength and resilience of the women who challenge expectations. With the crow as a metaphor for the extraordinary times we live in, our gaze silently follows as she disintegrates, gathers herself and moves on – unbroken and undaunted.
Includes a performance by Kathak-Contemporary dancer Mitul Sengupta accompanied by acclaimed musician Christella Litras and will include graduating dance students from Leeds Beckett University. Choreography by Shambik Ghose and Mitul Sengupta.
Rhythmosaic dance company’s artistic identity is rooted in the sensibilities of both Traditional and Contemporary dance. The company’s approach to dance research has been informed by the rich experience of both Mitul Sengupta and Shambik Ghose as teachers, performers, and choreographers nationally and internationally for over 16 years. Although Rhythmosaic’s creative work exemplifies the hybridization between South Asian traditional dance Kathak and western Jazz dance techniques, into an exciting contemporary utterance, however, its choreographic renditions rarely exhibit symbolical or gestural codifications germane to those specific movement cultures. The artistic emergence evolves as a unique kinetic signature realized through the exploration of the embodied physical wisdom rooted in various movement traditions that the artist brings with them in the practice and in that very moment of creation.
