Meeting Of The Muses

Michael and Andrew have been combining Words and Music since their schooldays together in Doncaster long ago. Michael plays the piano and sings, but Andrew just speaks. This will be a charming and stimulating miscellany on a variety of themes investigating life, love and destiny, with laughter along the way.

Meet the greedy goblin of the saltmarsh, plunge to the depths of despair for a lost love with Edgar Allen Poe’s “Annabel Lee”, celebrate the life of the Morse author, Colin Dexter with the great detective’s famous theme by Barrington Pheloung and poem “May” by AE Housman, investigate the tragic loss of the Titanic, the astonishing limericks of Edward Lear and the delightful humour of Flanders and Swann. Take in along the way the music of Debussy, Grieg, Schumann and The Seekers – together with the words of Shakespeare, Tennyson, Keats, Hardy and Lewis Carroll – a truly eclectic mix!

There’s a little something for everyone who loves poetry and music, where the poetry inspires the notes and the music reflects on the words.

Michael and Andrew last performed at the Manor House in 2013. There are a few favourites from that concert intermingled with many new items. Join us, do!
