Medieval and Early Modern Superstitions

About

In Medieval and Early Modern Britain, 500 to 1800 AD, superstition filled the gap between the known and unknown, the explained and unexplained. Many of today’s superstitions go back to these times. Some brought good luck and fortune, while others were for protection against evil spirits or witchcraft. In this display in the Housebody at Bolling Hall, we showcase several objects in Bradford Museums and Galleries’ collection which relate to some of these superstitions. We also present a case of an accused witch in Bowling, Bradford, in the 17th century.
