“The world might not seem to care. But can. We can care. It’s an act of defiance.”
It’s Ella’s first day at work. It might just be Hayleigh’s last. Ella wants to be good at her job, Hayleigh just wants to be allowed to get on with hers but it’s tough to do either when you work in care.
The Council allocates fifteen minutes for a home care visit – "flying visits" they call them. Hayleigh thinks fifteen minutes is not nearly enough. Ella thinks that it's fifteen minutes of her life she’s never getting back. But hang on. Isn’t the truth that every fifteen minutes is fifteen minutes you’re never getting back?
Tender, heart-warming and occasionally heart stopping, Flying Visits is a love letter to care workers, the unsung heroines of our time. It's rally cry to care – for ourselves, each other and the future.
Flying Visits is a new play based on the award-winning BBC Radio 4 drama series which has been specially adapted for the Ilkley Playhouse Stage.
“Hilarious and heart-breaking, Flying Visits is a life-affirming play exploring the struggles of working in care when society doesn’t seem to care.”
This play contains some strong language. Advisory age 14+
