About
In this workshop, you will learn about and experiment with a range of textile skills including wet felting, needle felting, carding and hand embroidery. By the end of the day, you will have created a beautiful piece of felted artwork. You will have access to a selection of wonderful wool fibres; dyed merino, multi-coloured blends, alpaca, British sheep’s wool, plus a range of speciality fibres.
Felt is a textile material made by compressing and matting together natural animal and plant fibres. Melanie our tutor, will lead you through the exciting process of creating a piece of felt using a technique called wet felting. Layers of wool are laid down, and an image or design is created using different colours and textures. The wool is then soaked and manipulated to bond the fibres together to create a versatile piece of fabric. This piece of fabric can then be embellished with extra features and details using needle felting and hand embroidery.
Workshop guests can decide to create pieces of artwork influenced by landscapes, seascapes, special places, flowers and nature. Often students decide to create pieces of abstract work inspired by shapes, colours and texture. Melanie will provide you with plenty of ideas and inspiration
Suitable for beginners and those looking to improve and extend their textile and artistic skills – no previous experience required.
