About
Join the museum Young Ambassadors’ memorable multisensory experience that boldly explores migrant heritage.
BMG Young Ambassadors have selected artworks in the civic art gallery:
Wrapped items on shelving – Osman Yousefzada
Dastarkhan – Machilipatnam
Industrial Landscape – LS. Lowry
Edible Archives’ workshop will use these three artworks as reference points to create individually wrapped rice paper dumplings – mimicking the structure in Osman’s work on which wrapped parcels are stacked. Upon this are placed rice paper wraps and a variety of ingredients – precious morsels representing memories and belongings, for participants to select and build their own dumplings, which they can then sit and eat whilst taking part in activity 2.
All the food will be vegan, nut and gluten free.
Contribute to the making a dastarkhan
Decorate the tablecloth with vegetable and fruit dyes, use potato prints, carved wooden block prints and paint brushes. This will be finished new work which can be a legacy item on show in Bradford’s museums.
Edible Archives flip etiquette on its head, encouraging you to disrupt expected behaviours and engage with heritage stories through fresh, multi-sensory storytelling. Chef Sonia Sandhu and artist Harry Jelley will use taste, smell, sight, and touch to conjure edible moments to remember.
