Fourth “May Foster Pickles’ Memorial Lecture” to the Olicana Historical Society. “Dry Stone Walls and Landscape History”. By Angus Winchester, Emeritus Professor of History. University of Lancaster.

Prof Winchester’s academic research falls under two headings:
a) landscape history, particularly of upland areas; and
b) local and regional identity in northern England.
Much of his recent work has been on the history of resource management on common land and, in particular, the role of manor courts. His current projects include building a corpus of manorial byelaws from northern England.
