Details
Join us at Plenty at the Square Café as we present Beryl Robinsons’s painting debut.
A South Square potter in the 1980’s, Beryl returns to the centre to exhibit her surreal, sinister body of work in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Macabre topical news stories and fear of voracious infection rates fuels the inspiration for this series.
Beryl invites the viewer to interpret her work but warns that the virus has no pattern. As in real life, you never quite know where the virus is and who passes it on. Would your concern be with finding the figure that spread the virus? No one should judge.
“I started painting at the onset of the Pandemic. There are 124 works at present. In some of the work, I have given the Coronavirus a figurative form. In others, a suitcase, an apple or a bird. Each painting depicts fear and suspicion.”
