A display of old tvs

About

We’ve been delighted to work with former employees of Baird Television & Thorn Electricals who have generously shared their time, knowledge and memories to create an exhibition about their experiences working for the company using images from our own collections as well as those supplied by the employees.

Based over several sites in Bradford, Bairds made on average 1,400 televisions and employed 2 and half thousand workers at its height in the 1960s and 70s.  Closing in 1978, many of its workers went on to be employed in other technological companies including Microvitec and Pace.

Visitors to Café Gallery can learn about the production lines, the lively social life of its employees and it’s innovative approach and impact on television technology  –  and are invited to share their own memories of the company too.
