Details

Meet at Bracken Hall Countryside Centre for a walk around much of Baildon townships enclosed land. We head up Shipley Glen to the anti aircraft battery and crossing the road, head to the right around the walled land of both Mitton Spring and Bracken Hall Farms to Crook Farm. Here we walk around 'their' enclosed land and Crook Wood - an ancient woodland, up onto Baildon Moor. We follow the paths next to the enclosed farmland right around Baildon Moor to the golf course and into Baildon village, passing examples of gannister, remains of cinder production for trackways and next to WW1 rifle ranges. In Baildon, we head down Northgate and then turn right up Westgate and onto Baildon Bank. Back along Baildon Bank, we spy many examples of carboniferous fossils, both of Lepidodendron trees and Calamites horsetails. We complete our walk passing Midgley, Walker and Trench woods to Prod lane and here we turn right into Shipley Glen and the end of our winter walk.
