Sat 9 Sep Heritage Open Days - 'Sneaky Peek'

The great doors of City Hall will be thrown open as part of the national Heritage Open Day, and between 10am and 4pm you will have the chance to fully explore the corridors.

Walk up the grand central staircase of City Hall which dates back to 1914 and have a ‘Sneaky Peek’ self - guided tour. The tour gives people a chance to learn about the history of Bradford. Enjoy a FREE tour of the Grade I listed building.

City Hall is a building of immense architectural significance and was designed by Lockwood & Mawson. There is no need to book, just simply turn up and take a look at some of the city’s treasures. You can view historic rooms such as The Lord Mayor’s Office, Council Chambers and this year we are including the Victorian Court room which has featured in the popular soap opera, Emmerdale. You may even be lucky enough to meet the Lord Mayor!

You can buy refreshments at the pop up café in the decorative Banqueting Hall and admire the frieze over the fireplace which is particularly interesting.

The theme of the day is ‘Heroes’, and we would love you to come down and tell us about your family heroes. Chris Smith a Fire Officer in Bradford has produced a book on the history of the Fire Service and he will be there on the day too! One of his heroes was involved in the Low Moor explosion.

Learn more about the National Rugby League Museum planned for Bradford through Rugby League Cares who will have an exhibition in the Reception Rooms - you may even be lucky enough to meet some of their heroes!

You can visit the ‘Under the Clock’ *Police Museum. Here you can see the holding cells and court room. (*There is an admission into this museum.)

So come down and take a ‘Sneaky Peek’.
