Asadour Guzelian Exhibition at Salts Mill & 1853 Gallery
Asadour Guzelian runs the Guzelian picture agency from premises in Little Germany, Bradford.
Photographs by Guzelian photographers - ranging from hard news to reportage to feature-style portraits - appear daily in most national newspapers and magazines.
Asadour's first break came in 1978, just days after joining the Barry Wilkinson agency in Leeds Road, Bradford, from college at the age of 21. Despatched to the RSPCA to photograph a puppy rescued by bin men, he struggled for a picture until he spotted a dustbin. Pictures of the dog peering out of the bin were splashed in next day's national tabloids.
Asadour left to start his own business in 1986. He began by submitting work to the likes of the Telegraph and the Times and soon commissions flowed in from all the quality broadsheets. It was the year of the launch of the Independent, whose Picture Post-style coverage suited his style and approach - and gave the rest of Fleet Street a renewed appetite for quality photojournalism.
The agency soon grew out of its one-room premises in Bradford and eventually moved to a four storey building in Saltaire where it stayed for 15 years, reaching a peak of nine staff photographers in the mid-1990s.
This exhibition is based in Salts Mill Roof Space.
