Morning
World-class art, exhibitions, events and independent galleries form Bradford's thriving arts scene.
Start your day in Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to Salts Mill. Salts Mill dominates this impressive model Victorian village and houses the 1853 Gallery (free entry). Here you will find one of the largest collections of David Hockney's work including oil paintings, etchings, prints and opera sets.
The mill is also home to several cafes and restaurants, as well as lots of interesting independent shops.
A good time to visit Saltaire is September for the Saltaire Festival and the Saltaire Arts Trail. The centre-piece of the Arts Trail, the Open Houses is a magical experience. Grade 2 listed residents' houses are transformed into unique, stunning galleries showcasing the finest art and craft from across Yorkshire. Other highlights include the Makers' Fair, the Open Exhibition and the Children's Mini Trail.

Afternoon
There are many other options to admire famous and local artists work. Cartwright Hall Art Gallery (free entry) in Bradford's Lister Park has a changing programme of exhibitions as well as work by Lowry, Joshua Reynolds and Andy Warhol.
Other galleries to visit include Impressions Gallery (free entry) and Bradford 1 Gallery (free entry), which are located in the city centre. Both are free and Impressions Gallery is one of the UK's independent leading venues for photography showing the best of today's photographers.
Just a five-minute walk from Impressions Gallery is the National Media Museum (free entry), one of the UK's most popular museums. Seven floors of interactive exhibitions, two cinemas and the IMAX cinema (various ticket prices) make this a fantastic day out.
Alternatively visit the South Square Centre in Thornton a small art gallery and arts centre. There's a popular café serving vegan and vegetarian food and an arts and crafts shop.
You'll also find lots of independent galleries and art shops throughout the district. Ilkley has several galleries including Artolicana Art Gallery, Carlton Art Antiques and the Art Shop.
