Discover more about Ilkley's history and enjoy a good cup of coffee at the Manor House's monthly Historical Talk and Coffee Morning. Last Friday of every month. No need to book.

While being a major exhibit in itself, the Manor House also stands on the remains of the Roman fort of Olicana. Only a short section of defensive wall remains exposed at the back of the building, but Roman artefacts from the fort and surrounding area are on permanent display inside the Manor House, together with prehistoric artefacts and information about the development of Ilkley as a Victorian spa town.

Walking in Ilkley & Wharfedale

Ilkley is a Walkers are Welcome town and has an abundance of walks for all abilities. Take a stroll along the River Wharfe or enjoy a more challenging walk up onto Ilkley Moor. Free walking routes are available from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre or downloadable from www.visitilkley.com.

Enjoy Fine Dining in Ilkley

Ilkely has a well deserved reputation as a town that takes its food seriously. One of Ilkley's most famous restaurants is the Michelin starred Box Tree which serves a modern French classical menu. Also in nearby Bolton Abbey is the Burlinghton Restaurant at the Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel which has one Michelin star.   

If your budget won't stretch this far there are lots of other restaurants to choose from.  Popular choices include the Far Syde, Martha and Vincent and La Sila.

Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Trains

Take the family to the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway for a family day out on a steam train. Travelling on the Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is the perfect way to see the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Enjoy refreshments in the Refreshment Rooms and there are buffet cars attached to most trains. Look out for the regular programme of events.
